IN THE BEGINNING... |

Roy Damiens of Benton, MS was a struggling
pig farmer in the early 9O’s. With the drop
in the hog market, Roy's farm was on the verge
of bankruptcy. Having cooked pork most of his life...
after all it was readily accessible....He felt like he could
cook and sell pork, for better profits than raising one
and selling it to the market.In a financial crunch and wondering what to do, Roy hand built a mobile barbecue trailer that resembled a red tin barn. He couldn’t afford the proffesional signage on the unit, so he took old scrap pieces of barn wood and hand-painted the PIG SHACK name and food items on them. Roy Damiens had a good friend named “Dr. Ledbetter” who was a veterinarian in Yazoo City, MS. Dr. Ledbetter let Roy put his mobile BBQ unit in the parking lot of the vet clinic, and start selling BBQ. The laugh around town was that everyone would tell you “were going to the vet clinic to get some great BBQ.” Pig Shack BBQ was a big hit.. and Roy saw the need to expand the Pig Shak in a larger populated area, and create the first dine-in Pig Shak. Roy Damiens sold the original Pig Shack (with a "c" in shack),and the lady that bought the take-out location in Yazoo City, changed the original Pig Shack “flavor.” In keeping with the true Pig Shack concept,Roy Damiens then partnered with Billy Burwell and opened the first DIne-In Pig Shak BBQ in Madison, MS. in 2002. Progressively the Pig Shak started “packing-out” at lunch and a star BBQ restaurant was born. Roy Damiens befriended Mike Watkins of Jackson, MS in 2002. Mike had been in sales and marketing for over 15 years. Mike took notice of the efficient concept and unbelievably good food of Pig Shak BBQ. Mike told Roy that “you have a concept and quality of BBQ" , that the whole world should know about.” Mike left his professional position and opened the second Dine-in Pig Shak BBQ in Byram, MS. After only one year of succesful operation, Mike bought into the first location as well. Mike and Roy worked long hours operating both stores and developing the PIG SHAK franchise concept. SHAK ENTERPRIZE, INC, the franchise corporation was started in February of 2005 and is currently offering franchises in several states.
